GIS default background map provider

Dear all

Would it be possible to change the default GIS background map provider from Google to OpenStreetMaps (initial checkbox tick at GIS app and dashboard maps) or even completely disable Google Maps?
The source of this request is a political issue of displaying the name of a neighbouring but hostile country in the ministry.

Best,
David

Hi David,

OpenStreetMap will be the default background map provider in 2.23+.

Hi Jan,

This is great news - will this also come with the ability to turn off background completely in 2.23? , as a user setting perhaps?

Hi Dapo,

Not in 2.23, but probably 2.24.

On the other hand, the default map should now be a lot faster than before, so hopefully the need to turn it off isn’t there anymore even on slow connections.
