Hi,

To follow up on this discussion on documentation I would like to inform you that there is an ongoing effort to write a wiki-based manual for DHIS 2 here:
http://www.openhealthconsortium.org/wiki/doku.php?id=dhis_2_documentation

I am not sure this is the right place or platform for writing up the manual, but right now it seems like the most sensible place to start and contribute.
Later we can always export this into other forms of documentation, or move it to a more appropriate place.

The main point is to start writing up what we know in one place.

Contact me for registration to the wiki which you need in order to edit any pages there.

All implementers should contribute to documentation (finding time to do it is another issue), but after a rather lengthy discussion with Ola today, I am not sure if I really even understand where to start. We had a rather lengthy chat about aggregation methods. I had seen that DHIS2 produced some funky indicator values, and now I understand why. The “aggegate start level” function was far from obvious, and incredibly important to understand for DHIS2 implementers. Perhaps some of the non-developers, such as myself, could help to contribute, but we at least need to have a fundamental understanding of how the system really functions, at its most basic level, without having to delve into the source code.

Some functions, such as addition of data elements seem straightforward. Others, such as the aggregation method I mention here are far from straightforward. I would tend to think the dev should start with a framework of the functionality, and perhaps the implementers could flesh out the “which-button-to-press” functionality.

Yes we do. Obviously the developers are stretched, they should give a technical description of how things works but someone needs to sit down and write this down nicely. Johan has been talking about writing documentation for a long time. Is there any progress here? Is there anyone else who feels like contributing?

Also, we have implemented an integrated help system in dhis2, where we put an icon beside the relevant function which displays a popup when clicked. A non-developer could write the doc/help text and a note of where it should be.

Another case I came across earlier today that needs some documentation is

the new feature of aggregation levels for data elements.

i18n-ified message saying “no_more_categories_to_select”. Not sure what

this means.

After typing in a value and clicking “add new custom value”, two

occurrences of that value show up in the selected list.

The heading of the selected list should be “selected custom values”,

not “select custom value”.

Feedback is given through javascrip popups, while the system standard

is to use span fields ( ).

The message “dude, duplicates are not allowed” is displayed if you try

to enter duplicates.

The list of suggested values has duplicates. It should not.

I am not able to see any custom values in data entry, nor for regular,

category and custom forms. I might be me that has not understood how it

works.
