DOCUMENTATION ON MIGRATION FROM DHIS1.4 TO DHIS2.x

Dear All,

I am looking for documentation on how to migrate a production instance
from DHIS1.4 to DHIS2.X. I know that Johan and some of you have done
this in Sierra Leone and other countries but I do no know if this is
documented in detail anywhere.

I spoke to Prof. Braa about this recently and he thinks there are bits
and pieces of specifications, procedures, etc that may not have been
put together in one document.

Can anyone provide or point to where I can get such a document or
pieces that can be put together?

Warmest regards.

Hi Kayode,

The basic process is described here

http://dhis2.org/doc/snapshot/en/user/html/ch18s03.html#d5e3390

You should probably use the "File" method to perform the initial
import. Most importantly, you need to resolve ALL data integrity
violations which may be present in DHIS 1.4 before attempting to
import into DHIS2. There are a number of other "gotchas" which are not
well documented in the formal user documentation but which have been
documented to a large extent on this or the dev mailing list.

Best regards,
Jason

To add to what Jason says, the typical issue is with uniqueness. The name, short name, code and alternative name properties for data element, dataset, indicator and organisation unit are constrained to be unique in DHIS 2 (minus short name for org unit). I think they are in DHIS 1.4 too but often we see that this is not the case. So it is wise to fix any uniqueness violations prior to import.
