Hi John,

Here are some steps you are supposed to follow:

    1. Download the J2ME Aggregate client from http://dhis2.org/downloads

(download the 2.9 version, don’t worry, it’s compatible with
2.10 server)

    2. Configure the server:

    - Login to the DHIS2 server

    - Go to Maintenance => Mobile Configuration => Dataset for

Mobile

    - Assign the datasets you want to send to mobile device

    - Check if the mobile user has all of the dataset assign

correctly as well as user role

    3. Install the J2ME into your mobile device and login with your

mobile user. Now you should be good to go.

    Best regards,

    Long

dealing with aggregate data

            - what type of phones

will be used: do the phones support java? If it is
smartphones, do they use a browser that supports offline
storage?

          I am yet

to assess the phones available on the market. However, it
is likely that the phones will support Java at the
minimum. We will also want to benefit from the offline
data entry capabilities of DHIS2 so we will most likely
use phones that support offline storage.

            - do you require support

for offline data entry?

          Yes. Could

you please kindly explain how this can impact my case if
the response is yes or no.

            - how much data are they

supposed to enter? If it is only a few data elements,
the new SMS reporting might be an option.

The data is not much. for each data set, we are talking

about between 35 to 40 data elements.

Thank you so much.

Hi John,
there are quite a few options for reporting to
DHIS2 using mobile phones, can you give us a bit
more information about your case:

  • is this aggregate data or case-based data?
                  - what type of phones will be used: do the

Thank you so much my brother.

I am currently attending a regional workshop in Accra and so have free time only in the evenings. I will sure get back to you on this. I’m so excited that I can’t wait to try it and see it work.

One quick question though: Can I use the mobile phone to send data to an instance of DHIS2 running on my personal computer i.e. not a web-based server, provided all the other settings are correct?

Thanks.

Hi John,
If your computer has a public IP address (unlikely) you will be able to send data to it, otherwise, it is not possible. as data is transmitted from the phone through the internet. If you can login to your local computer from the phone, it will work. But you must have a public IP, or possibly be able to get to the machine through the same mobile network on a private IP range, but this again is very unlikely that it would be possible.

Regards,

Jason

Hi John,

Here are some steps you are supposed to follow:

    1. Download the J2ME Aggregate client from [http://dhis2.org/downloads](http://dhis2.org/downloads)
(download the 2.9 version, don't worry, it's compatible with 2.10 server)

    2. Configure the server:

    - Login to the DHIS2 server

    - Go to Maintenance => Mobile Configuration => Dataset for Mobile

    - Assign the datasets you want to send to mobile device

    - Check if the mobile user has all of the dataset assign correctly as well as user role

    3. Install the J2ME into your mobile device and login with your mobile user. Now you should be good to go.

    Best regards,

    Long

The data is not much. for each data set, we are talking about between 35 to 40 data elements.

Hi John,
If your computer has a public IP address (unlikely) you will be able to send data to it, otherwise, it is not possible. as data is transmitted from the phone through the internet. If you can login to your local computer from the phone, it will work. But you must have a public IP, or possibly be able to get to the machine through the same mobile network on a private IP range, but this again is very unlikely that it would be possible.

Jason

Thank you so much my brother.

I am currently attending a regional workshop in Accra and so have free time only in the evenings. I will sure get back to you on this. I’m so excited that I can’t wait to try it and see it work.

One quick question though: Can I use the mobile phone to send data to an instance of DHIS2 running on my personal computer i.e. not a web-based server, provided all the other settings are correct?

Thanks.
