DHIS2 Capture android app at Google Play

Hi,

DHIS2 Capture android versions are automatically downloaded from Google play on the user mobile device. Is there any way of avoiding automatic downloads? Since DHIS2 Capture android version must be compatible with DHIS2 version, won’t automatic downloads cause any problem for data collection on android phones?

Thanks

Hi @fernando

It is possible to disable automatic updates from Google Play, both for all apps and for specific ones.

  1. Open the Google Play app

  2. At the top right, tap your Profile picture.

  3. Tap Settings and then Network Preferences and then Auto-update apps.

  4. Select an option:

    • Update all apps over Wi-Fi or mobile data

    • Update with limited amount of mobile data

    • Update over Wi-Fi only

    • Don’t auto-update apps

If this needs to be enforced across multiple devices/users (not just manually on each phone), then you’ll need some kind of device management solution.

Since DHIS2 Capture android version must be compatible with DHIS2 version, won’t automatic downloads cause any problem for data collection on android phones?

In general, new versions of the app are built to remain compatible with earlier DHIS2 server versions. Each release adds support for the newest server versions, but it doesn’t drop support for the older ones. So upgrading the app on a device should not immediately cause problems with data collection. But we suggest to test each version before upgrading, so I agree is better not to have automatic downloads.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any question
