[dhis-mobile] DHIS 2 Android Apps Next Generation - Kick off

Dear Prosper ,
thanks for sharing the news on the Dhis2-users group.

Dear Cristin,

it’s a very good news! We appreciate the effort of the community to bring more functional Mobile application with cache capability for connectionless acquisition and report visualization (prefetched when connection present).

We use partially the Event Capture App and the Dashboard App, but we plan to use it more in the next step of the project and when the App will be more intuitive and stable. I thing it is better to have one app DHIS 2, which combine all single Apps, similar to the Website, rather them more different Apps.

I’ve already completed the survey.

Dear Kristin,

Thanks for the timely information we will go ahead and respond to the survey.

On another critical note, HISP Kenya, HISP Uganda and HISP Tanzania are supporting a real community implementation funded by EU and the only solution is Android tracker capture to register all the households and household members in one country. On a monthly basis visit households and track their status. Its start date is July 1, 2017.

The household and related household tracker programs have been setup, initial tests with the current Android tracker capture done , team excited but a few bugs may impact its full implementation. We have written these in jira but unsure whether they are being fixed or will be fixed.

This is a key project to success of a community piece since its fully funded on the part of implementation (android phones to be purchased by the project for 240 community volunteers, being paid for the work they do and also facilitated with bicycle transport).

Looking forward

Dear DHIS2 Community,

We are aware that collecting (and using) data offline is crucial for the settings where we work. For that reason, during 2017 we are prioritizing the Android Apps of DHIS2.

We are working on building a new integrate DHIS2 Android app, which will slowly replace the current ones. At the same time, we are reinforcing the maintenance of the current Android apps to guarantee having a solution available until the new app is complete. We are strengthening the Android development process by bringing in external expertise as in our friends Marta, Rodolfo & Jose.

For the new DHIS2 Android App, we have started by replicating the functionality of Tracker Capture and Event Capture Android apps, including missing functionality present in the DHIS 2 web version. Data Capture (aggregated) functionality and other features are to be added later. However, the complete roadmap still needs to be developed, and we seek your input.

  • First we want to make sure that we know who the Android community is. If you have worked, are working or plan to work with the DHIS2 Android apps, please respond to this survey.
  • Secondly, we will distribute a list of features amongst those replying to the survey, where you will be able to prioritize the list according to your needs.

This initiative also includes the reinforcement of the testing and documentation, we plan to clearly document what can or cannot be done with the apps, and their DHIS2 version/ release compatibility.

You will be hearing more from us very soon!

Kristin,

Marta, Rodolfo & Jose & the Android team

Thanks Antonia, and those being super proactive in responding the survey.

We already have five submissions in less than three hours

Great done community, keep up the good work!
