Data values import

Hi all,

We are transferring data values from one DHIS2 instance to another and we are experiencing some troubles. Both instances have the same metadata, we exported the data from the source instance and run the import in the target instance.

The results from the import are correct and if we check the database the datavalues are there. Even more, if we query through the API for the data values for a specific data set, and orgunit and a period it gives us the same data values that the source instance give with the same query.

But then if we enter the data entry app or create a pivot table asking for this data, the data is not available.

DHIS2 2.25 build 8feec9a.

Has anyone experienced this? Hopefully we are missing something in the process.

I was assuming the daily run we have in the source instance but it’s true that we have not configured it yet in the target one. I will try it! Thanks

But also I thought that to visualise the data values at the data entry module it was not needed to update the data mart…

Already run the analytics and the data values are not showing in the Data entry App, (neither in pivot tables). The query getDataValues.action does not return any of the data values. But we do have data values in the data base and we can query them through the API.

I suspect, but am not sure, that you category option combinations are not the same in the two instances. Are you sure that this is the case? Otherwise, you will see the data in the data values table, but it may not show up in the data entry form itselt. Be sure that your category option combination UIDs are exactly the same between the two instances.

The categoryOptionCombos ids are the same in both instances, checking the file exported from the source instances, there’s also a field called attributeOptionCombo which we don’t know how to check if it’s the same between both instance. This might be the source of the problem i guess.

How can we manage that. A quick pathc can be to see which is the attributeOptionCombo of some mannually created datavalues in the target instances and edit the datavalues file replacing this id.

Any thoughts?

This should be set to the default UID. Be sure that this category option combo id is also the same in both target and source instances. In theory, this should not make a difference,but it might explain why there is data in the datavalue table, but nothing is showing up in data entry.

You can check to be sure they are the same in both instances with something like

https://play.dhis2.org/demo/api/categoryOptionCombos?filter=name:eq:default

In later versions of DHIS2, this is a constant, but in older versions, it may not be the same.

This is correct.

Then like Jason says, if you are using a non-default attribute option combo
in your source system, and the default/no attribute option combo in the
target system, this is a probably cause for data not appearing.

And this is how it looks like a data value mannually added in the target instance:

This is correct.

Then like Jason says, if you are using a non-default attribute option combo in your source system, and the default/no attribute option combo in the target system, this is a probably cause for data not appearing.

You can try and reset the UID on the source system to the destination system, and see if that works.

I would only try this on a development server, and test everything very carefully.

UPDATE categoryoptioncombo set uid = ‘Xr12mI7VPn3’ where uid = ‘HoDiXsWulNy’;

After that, restart Tomcat.

Messing with the categorycombos is a really go way to mess up the system, so proceed carefully.

This is correct.

Then like Jason says, if you are using a non-default attribute option combo in your source system, and the default/no attribute option combo in the target system, this is a probably cause for data not appearing.

I think we are still missing something, the data values added throught the import app from the source instance are linked to the ‘Xr12mI7VPn3’ category option combo which now is the default in the database. But somehow, the datavalues created mannually are still pointing to a ‘HoDiXsWulNy’ attributeOptionCombo.

What’s more, the system already has a ‘HoDiXsWulNy’ categoryOptionCombo which is not the default.

This attributeOptionCombo seems to be computed inside the query (what I can see from the console is that the getDataValues.action does not have any parameter called attributeOptionCombo).

You can try and reset the UID on the source system to the destination system, and see if that works.

I would only try this on a development server, and test everything very carefully.

UPDATE categoryoptioncombo set uid = ‘Xr12mI7VPn3’ where uid = ‘HoDiXsWulNy’;

After that, restart Tomcat.

Messing with the categorycombos is a really go way to mess up the system, so proceed carefully.

We are still having problems with the data import. Is there anyone who have managed to transfer data values from one instance to another? Its a key feature for us, not only to maintain two servers in our side (dev and www) but also to transfer/receive data from other instances.

I think that the source of the problem is that a DataSet export with dependencies does not include the Category Option Combinations, as we don’t have them in the target instance our custom data entry forms have undefined fields.

So to solve that we had to import the Category Option Combinations from one instance to other, but in the target instance we only have the categories and category options for the specified DataSet so all the categoryOptionCombos imported with no category combo associated are linked with the default one in the table Categorycombos_optioncombos. Then the attributeOptionCombo of any dataValue is one of this categoryOptionCombinations associated with the default (must see the code to find how the system computes it).

Deleting all this incorrect links in the table Categorycombos_optioncombos seems to be a practical solution but I think it will cause further problems in the future.
