Data is not annually taken

Hi all,

Please help, I need your suggestions. I have this data called mass blood survey. The problem with this data set are location of the survey is often changing and the period is not really annually. For example: on January 2010 survey held in B location. On February 2010, there was another survey but it is in C location. Another time, survey held in D location. Next time the survey held, it could be in a totally different location.

My plan is to make survey location as organisation unit and period of data set is monthly. My concern are:

  • is it okay if in the future I keep adding new organisation unit (in this case location)?
  • because the location is not always surveyed every month it will cause blank form in most of the months as I will input the data only on the month they are being surveyed. will this cause any problem in the future?

What do you think? I am open to any suggestions.

Thank you very much.

Best regards,

Karina

Hi Karina,

There is no problem in adding additional locations/OrgUnits later. Also, if no data is entered for a month, nothing will be entered in the database, so this is also fine.

Since you are doing a survey, another option (but not sure it would be any better in your case) could be to use events, which would have a date of recording.

Regards,

Knut

Hi Knut,

thank you for replying.

I haven’t try to use events. I already see in demo, it seems useful. But I am not sure how to create events for my data since I do not record the date, only month and year. If this is the case, can I still use events?

Another issue, I asked this in different subject but no one reply to it. What is the best way to count data value? I have several data elements which the value need to be counted. I tried several things but none of them works.

Thank you for your kind help.

Best regards,

Karina.

Hi Karina,

If you don’t care about the day, just pick one (perhaps a fixed one).

Lars just replied to the other question, and also recommends using events for your use case.
