cancer registry

Hi Kazem,

I doubt anyone is currently using DHIS2 as a cancer registry, but that should be quite possible. It seems to be WHO Lyon that are manage them: http://codes.iarc.fr/abouticdo.php

Let me forward your request to the proper forum, namely the DHIS2 user list (sign up: https://www.dhis2.org/contact)

Do you already have the list of ICD-O codes in Excel or similar? Then it can be imported:

https://docs.dhis2.org/master/en/developer/html/webapi_csv_metadata_import.html#webapi_csv_option_sets

Maybe you tell us a bit about more about your organization and use case?

Best regards,

Knut

Dear Kazem,

This is a very interesting use case.

However, as Mahdi was asking about on this list yesterday, it would require cascading/hierarchical or master/detail option sets, which are not currently supported. I hope some of the developers can chime in as to whether this is already on the roadmap. I could not find an issue for it in JIRA, and if so, I think it should be added, as it comes up repeatedly. It is obviously easier to just have two levels than an arbitrary number, so that is probably a good place to start.

But in the short run, you may need to put the master/detail logic on the client side, in a bespoke webapp:

https://docs.dhis2.org/master/en/developer/html/apps_creating_apps.html

Regards,

Knut

Dear Knut

Thank you very much for prompt response.

I am leading a research group with major interest in registry programs in Iran, in particular cancer registry program.

We are running a cancer registry program in a cancer hospital.

The idea is to collect cancer information and consolidate them a software and provide regular reports for different purposes, including cancer research.

I have enclosed ICDO codes in excel sheet. It has two groups of codes that will be entered separately in the data set.

The first one is TOPOLOGY codes and the second one is MORPHOLOGY codes.

Data entry for topology has a 2-step procedure. 1) selecting a code for main cancer site and 2) selecting a cod for subcategories of cancer site. For instance, first we select a code for breast cancer (C50) and then we select specific part of the breast cancer, for instance Upper-outer quadrant of breast (UOQ) for which the code will be (–.4). The results of this data entry will register the code C50.4.

We then select a morphology code from the MORPHOLOGY codes. For instance we may choose 8522/3 for infiltrating duct and lobular carcinoma.

The result of coding for a patient will be

C50.4 Upper-outer quadrant of breast cancer (UOQ)

8522/3 Infiltrating duct and lobular carcinoma

I have enclose both codes.

I hope this clear we will be able implement the system in dhis2. Otherwise, please let me know if further information is needed.

Best regards

Kazem
