API

Hi,

Does anyone know why the API is currently only available in XML? I am using 2.17-SNAPSHOT.

Hi Jerome, just add .json:

https://apps.dhis2.org/dev/api/resources.json

It’s also available in JSON for example, but you have to add .json behind the URL. Were you thinking of the html-support? I thnk the HTML-support was a bit problematic. We have some student projects working on apps that map the API into more readable HTML-pages. If you have input to good features for those students to implement as part of those projects, that’d be excellent. What would be useful to have in such an HTML-API-browsing-App?

The student projects are part of a course at UIO. Their deadline in December, and since these are student projects, we don’t expect them all to be 100%, but of last year’s projects several made it to the app store and more specific projects.

We have 100 students working on app projects, and here’s the list of current projects (there are several groups on each task):

Web API HTML-view browser
Data element bulk editor
Touch-based messaging app
Interpretation to facebook
Facility registry app
DHIS quiz app
Tools for quality insurance
Academy connector

Best regards,
Lars

There have been several mails about this on the list already.

I would suggest you install “XMLTree” as an extension, and it will allow you to view the XML, pretty much the same as it was before. There was another alternative mentioned a while back as well, so just look in the Chome store for things to render XML as viewable HTML in your browser if you do not like this one.

Regards,

Jason

What do you mean “API particulars”?

I thought really you just wanted to be able to sort of navigate through the API, as was previously possible with the HMTL rendering, but maybe we call misunderstood?

If you go to /api/charts/, don’t you see all of the charts currently available?

For instance, on the demo (https://apps.dhis2.org/demo/api/charts/UlfTKWZWV4u) you get back lots of information. Is this not what you are looking for? Maybe if you can be more specific, we can help you out further.
